Paul J. deSousa, CPT
Paul brings over 20 years of business success to the process of management, assessment, design, development, implementation and evaluation of organizational performance improvement interventions. Using the slogan, “Innovating Performance Improvement,” and an uncommon blend of creative ability plus business knowledge, he has built and managed pioneering training and organizational development programs for: The University of Michigan School of Public Health, AFSCME, BetterInvesting, Ford Motor Company, E*Trade, AmeriTrade, Charles Schwab, SBC, and others.
Beginning with a Degree in Broadcast Communication Arts from San Francisco State University, Paul began his career as assistant creative director at The Wyman Company, Inc., producing radio and television advertising. He then went on to manage the film department (10 FTE) of KBHK-TV, winning Emmy Awards for station promotions.
Seeing opportunities in investments and financial services, Paul switched directions and pursued a sales track with Merrill Lynch Realty, then Birr=Wilson and E.F. Hutton, where he was a successful Realtor Associate and then Registered Representative. This path brought him to the pre-IPO Charles Schwab Company, where his passion for ethical customer service and innovation were key success factors in managing the business unit (85 FTE) that prototyped the operating business architecture for Schwab’s call center activities.
Armed with significant knowledge of both the securities business and influential communication processes, Paul melded these bodies of experience and became Training Manager and internal consultant for Schwab’s Retail Education and Development Department. In this role, he innovated, designed, developed and implemented significant learning and organizational development programs for systems, operations and customer service. Lured by the opportunities at pre-IPO E*Trade, Paul became their first Training Manager, and established their foundation training programs in Management, Customer Service, Operations, Licensing and Compliance.
Paul began COMPANIES BELLISLE in 1997 to provide performance improvement solutions to forward thinking customers in Silicon Valley, the Bay Area and across the country. AFSCME, BetterInvesting, Charles Schwab, E*Trade, AmeriTrade, SBC, Macromedia, Docent, CoVision, Damian Farrell Design Group and Information Express are among his satisfied contract customers.
In the spring of 2001, Paul joined MSXI working with Ford Asia Pacific (FAP) Retailer Education and Training as an Instructional Systems Designer. He has developed multi-national focused customer service, fleet sales and financial training programs. He was the Webmaster for the FAP Dealer Portal in Singapore. He designed and managed the development of FAP's proprietary Learning Management System.
Most recently, Paul has served as Instructional Designer and Media producer of the University of Michigan School of Public Health. He played a crucial role in shaping, developing and implementing a five-course 100% distance learning program offering a Certificate in the Foundations of Public Health.
Paul is a long time member of ISPI and is former Vice President of Web Development for the Greater Detroit Chapter of the ASTD. Paul was the Web Master for the University of Michigan – Dearborn Performance Improvement and Instructional Design program, where he is received his Master's Degree, with distinction, in Performance Improvement & Instructional Design. Paul is a Certified Performance Technologist through ISPI / ASTD. Paul is married and lives near Ann Arbor, Michigan.
